New work, finally

Hello there!  It has been months since my last blog post but I have been busy making things. Above you can see a Dooleybobber, I lose track of their numbers so I titled this one All Wired Up.  Because I used a lot of wire bits on it.  There is a bit of copper screening and some wire I found on the road.

 

I made the little fabric bead after seeing the ones on Victoria Gertenbach's blog, The Silly BooDilly.  Her's are so gorgeous and she is selling a tutorial, in case you are interested.

I've had the little toothpick doll for years and finally found a use for it.

I took part in an art challenge/trade and this is what I created for it.  It is only 6"x6" not counting the rusty barb wire hanger.

It was a fun departure from my usual style.

This is my first attempt at something akin to encaustic.  I used color crayons after heating up the 6" clayboard.  I also attached a copy of an earlier work I did, the birds and poem.

I used a crackle medium for the initial base painting.  I like the way it looks in spots.

I created the base fabric with scrim, silk and the needle felting machine.

I'm still making bed/lap quilts too.  I love this one, where I used some Laurel Burch fabrics and lots of my favorite colors.

I love the Indian maiden fabrics too.  These were the last little bits of this fabric.  I wish I had bought more of that years ago when I purchased it.

Sadie and Windy look all tuckered out!  It is snowing like crazy outside, we have nearly a foot of snow but it is so beautiful!  My birds are flocking in, I'm feeding out about twice as much bird seed as normal.

reprise Dooleybobber 15

I had so much trouble with my post yesterday I think most people missed it.  I had to keep tweaking it, the photos weren't showing up.  Today I put the back, label and hanger on it so will use that excuse to show it one last time.  I sure hope the photos stay put this time.

 I attached it to a piece of kunin felt.

I used a little piece of a root from a bush that the dogs dug up for the hanger.   That makes it a family effort.  If you missed the post yesterday, there are more photos (hopefully) of it there.  I think I will put it into my Etsy shop.

Dooleybobber #15

I believe I showed the beginning of this one awhile back.  Here is the progression of a dooleybobber.  Above is the background of needle felted bits attached to the base of wool fabric and scrim.

Here you see some progress with stitching, buttons, felt balls, beads and baubles and more lacy bits attached.

Plugging away

This is the blue circle piece I showed before.

 Here is where it stands now. Not much progress except I cut the crack into it, that's how the light gets in. Also did some stitching into it.

Here is a close up on the painted jean seam beads. I had cut the seam off an old pair of jeans and then cut that into little pieces, painted the edges and sewed them to this piece with sequins and beads. Copper washers between each jean bead. 

Now I have started a dooleybobber, shown above. I'm ready to start hand stitching on it after all the needle felting is finished. I built it on top of a piece of lilac colored wool cloth with blue scrim on top of that, then needled roving and fabric bits on top. 

On my walk yesterday I gathered some old and new bits of nature including a hemlock cone, some alder dangly things (what are they called?) and a small tree bud. Also some old man's beard moss. Stitched them all down on these freshly dyed bits from the other day. It is post card sized but too fragile to actually mail, unless I put it into a box. There is a heart bead on there just right of center. Have to put a little heart into everything. It was just a quick fun project to get me started. I better get back to some hand stitching. Slow progress

I have been trying to get a blog post up but many things have been interfering.  The situation in Japan has been very much on my mind.  I have friends over there and was amazed when I received an email from them, letting us know they are all alive. They live in Tokyo and their home is a shambles, but they are grateful to be alive.  Also my blogging friend has been posting daily from her Japanese home.  You might like to read her blog, I have her on my side bar or just click here: Taniwa.  She had a friend visiting when the earthquake hit, they were out sight seeing and were underground!  You should go read her blog.  It is fascinating.

My little life seems hardly worth talking about right now.  The first photo shows progress (barely) on my current dooleybobber.  I applied the denim beads with sequins, copper washers and beads.  The close up photo is unavailable right now.  My power has been going out, already twice today.  But I'm not complaining!  Just saying.  Above is my design wall, covered with various things.  My work and some gift hearts over on the right side there.

This is a glimpse of dooleybobber #13.  I will be giving it away on the other blog, Fox on the Run.  That is the group blog of my art group.  We have been having give aways all month long and they continue, so go on over and leave a comment if you care to.  I haven't posted my piece yet, it will be later, probably next week.

Many of you have asked about my llama Grace and how she has adjusted to her new home. I'm happy to report that she is doing great!  She seems to have taken it all in stride and fits right in.  Isn't she cute?

My older llamas are still not happy to have the little whippersnapper pushing her nose into their hay flakes, but there seems to be less spitting than before.  The Divas let her follow them around, although they are a bit grumpy about it, plenty of laid back ears and posturing.

The snow is gone now, it was very pretty on this sunny day.
