Still here, dooleybobber #12

Dooleybobber #13 or Waiting for Spring
11"X11"

I'm still here.  Been playing with the embellisher, the needle felting machine.  Here is a new Dooleybobber I just finished, I also call it Waiting For Spring, because I am.  Aren't we all?  Well, maybe not those friends in Australia.  Here in Oregon we have had a rather mild winter, nothing too drastic as so many others have been experiencing.  I'll take this mild NW winter any day over the extreme winters so many of you others have had.
This piece is so light in weight, I love how the fibers bond to the scrim on the back.  It is hard to anchor a thread in it to stitch the beads and things down.
I put black felt on the back to give it a bit more substance and to frame the needle felted work.
I'm enjoying the hand stitching these days.  It helps clear my mind.  I try to just go with the flow, not think too much about what I am doing.
Here is a new piece I have started.  It is machine needle felted to a scrim background, with a fleece piece behind that I will be stitching to.  I was inspired by some denim bits I have to make this.  I'm going to make some denim beads to put on it.  You will see.

Don't forget to check out my creativity group blog, http://foxontherunarts.blogspot.com/.  We are having give aways all month, you still have time to get in on this one that we pick a winner for on the 8th: http://foxontherunarts.blogspot.com/2011/02/second-give-away.html.  Hurry!  You must leave a comment on the original posts to be entered in the give away.  I will be giving one of my dooleybobbers away later this month over there, so be watching for it if you are interested.

Been infatuated with Mumford and Sons lately.  I have to listen to Sigh No More every day or my day isn't complete.  Do you ever get that way with some music?  I'm loving it.  Also the Avett Bros are in my radar. Those guys get so enthusiastic about their music it is contagious.  Love these young groups.  Give them a listen.
Be well.

Wonderful, playful stitching. The scrim is almost nothing but air (cheesecloth?) or something like it? But of course your hand stitching really makes the pieces what they are, no machine could do that. I would like to play with an embellisher with cloth and paper though.....raining and warmer here...MUD season has begun. xox Corrine

Jan, these felted pieces are beautiful!!! I love seeing what you do, especially with the beading. Waiting For Spring is exceptional, and the round piece you're working on looks like the earth from above~~anxious to see where that goes!
Keep doing what you're doing!!! WONDERFUL!

XXOO~~♥

Jan, this dooleybobber is so very pretty. And you've already started another one? The blue is beautiful - eager to see what you do with this one.
I am sitting here watching 6 doves pecking away at the seed that has fallen out of the feeders onto the ground. I love watching their little heads bob. Amost hypnotic.
Happy to see this post. I've missed you.

I really have absolutely no idea what a needlefelting maching is, but I love what you're producing with it! Beautiful work!

Jan, I'm so excited for you that you've gotten your needle felting machine. I really LOVE #13. It looks so much like a Spring Landscape to me. I really like how all the layers kinda peak through on the edges...especially down on the lower left corner. So neat! AND I like how your Etsy Shop is scrolling your products on the right hand side of your page. So cool! How long will we all be able to resist buying?

Just fabulous! Yes your handstitching really makes it but you could probably afford to start with a slightly thicker (not TOO thick) base, with your scrim next (I love that stuff!) & the rest on top, just to give the needles something to get their teeth into & it won't be too delicate to stitch. Ooooooh, I can hear mine calling!

Can't wait to see yur denim beads - Ii've tried a few denim 'rolls' on purses & cuffs, lovely! You wouldn't believe how many pairs of jeans all my boys have been thru!

I love what you are doing with the embellisher. Are you safe from the Tsunami? We had to evacuate. Just hoping you are OK.

I just love these Aunt Jan! Such pretty dooley bobbers! :) I always keep up on your blog and we enjoy reading about what you're up to. I think when we pay you a visit someday maybe I should bring my camera (ok... that was just silly; OF COURSE I'll be bringing that!) and do an editorial of you at work. A "Day in the Life" of sorts. An ode to your creativity!
