My desk top

I mess with too many things. I do have fun though and that is what matters, right?  Can anyone identify that thing on my desk?  That thing there with the handle, in about the middle of the picture?
Here it is at another angle.  Come on, take a guess!  Some one will know.

Be well.
P.S. I just got my first comment from Mary Helen and realized my question is a little misleading.  I know what this thing is, I'm only wondering if anyone else knows.

It's so fun to see other people's stuff!! I'm fascinated by that "thing". Makes me think of one half of a pair of ice tongs but no....
Looks like that hook was meant to really dig into something but can't think why you would need a handle like that. Sides of beef and pork come to mind but, why the handle that looks like it was intended to pull??? I'm completely baffled!
Maybe it's an Amish tow truck!! Just hook that on your buggy, grab the handle and start towing!! teehee!

Hi Jan,

If I guess do I get one just like it? Lol :)
Is it used for the Haying season??
Is it used to hang onto as you slide down a rope and end up in the lake?
Is it used to root out vegetables?
Well...that's all I can think of!!

Many hugs from a nut!!

Susan :)

I thought it looked like it might have something to do with moving logs.

I can certainly identify with the desk!

I'd use this thing to hook into the basket of a passing hot air balloon & soar!

LOL!!!
YES I CAN!
A hay hook! I have a set in bright red that get used for anything BUT moving hay. Handiest things ever invented.
Love the photos of all the interesting things waiting for you there.
I am in the process of finding my tables again. Seems as soon as one spot is cleared, something lands in it. Small projects that have needed attention for a long time.
Which is okay as they are done and out of the studio, but I still need that table space!

XXOO~~
Anne....adept with hook or scythe! hahahaha!

It's a bale hook! For Hay. Gosh, it's been a long time since I've seen one! Love your desk area! Sounds much... like mine, which I know most of us can identify with! Loved the 'pop quiz' - have a great day!

I was going to say hay hook. It looks like a neat one, Jan. In our old farm house in Mosier I used one without the wood to hand old pots on. I love old stuff...

It's for hooking a bale of hay! At first I thought you meant the lint roller - hahahaha. You can't even SEE my desktop for all the stuff that is on it. I will try and be brave and take a picture of it. It is ridiculous. xox

a hay hook, right! We never used them but I'm sure the adults did! I love how you bring back so many memories for me!!

i had those when we kept horses in the backyard as a teenager and hay came in a bale and my dad thought having horses in the backyard would keep me out of the backseat of cars, which it did. that hook picks up a bale if you are strong enough to move it and if you slip it under the wire and twist it will bust the wire, usuall 3 wraps . then one could peel off flakes of hay or horse feeding.
now i will read the posts going before to see how many other cow/horse girls read this posting.

You need to send it to Cap'n James Hook. The crocs on the lose again......no huh? Okay it's a paper mess holder downer. Well okay since I've seen them when I go visit my favorite long eared animals.....it's a hay hook. But where are your donkeys? Oma Linda

Don't know what it's called but it's to hook a hay bale I believe? Now the real questions is, why is it on your desk? Did you forget to bring it back to the barn? xox

It looks like a hay or bale hook but what do I know? I live in the city and am allergic to hay. My desk has just been cleaned off so it looks too neat. When it's this neat I loose my desire to work. I need a mess to be creative.

We use one of these to put the hay bales in the barn for the horse & donkey. I am of course wondering what you use yours for? I don't have one on my desk, do I need one?

Forgot how much I love coming to hang out in your blog...the music, the feel, so inviting. Love the stuff on your desk but is that a weathered wooden top? I'm trying to peek. LOVE!

Love your desk, particularly the piece of embroidery in the hoop. Your reading matter looks interesting too. No idea what the hook is or why you would have it on your desk, unless you hook it over a wire and swing around your studio!

Pretty sure that is an ice hook. It would hook into a block of ice and you carried it with the handle part.

What an intriguing collection you have there Jan! The books definitely look interesting ;-)
I think I'm voting for Emma's explanation....or maybe Maggi's. They both sound like fun.
