Summertime

Hello!  I do hope you all are enjoying your summer and your weather is not too hot, not too wet, not too cold but is JUST RIGHT!

I have been working through the workshops in the 21 Secrets group and one is produced by Erin Bassett.
Her workshop was on altered art and she showed how to decorate shoes.  I found a pair of new canvas shoes at the thrift store for $3 and gave Erin's instructions a try.

I used Luminart paints and the stencil in the photo.

Here is my result.  I rather like them!

I wore them to a baby shower and the gift I brought was some onsies that I tie dyed.  Actually they were more technically fold dyed....

I used up my excess dye with some scrim and also tried some rice paper.  It took the dye beautifully!  I'll do more of that.

I forgot to get photos of the baby garments but here is one with the mother to be, Jamee Meir, holding one.  Cute, huh!  T-shirt is kinda cute too.

I picked a winner for my book giveaway and it is Cynthia at oldblackcatboo.  Send me your address Cynthia and I'll get the book Cabin 108 off to you this week.
Until next time,

be well.

Your shoes look really great and are certainly unique. Love the dyeing. Still in the middle of glorious weather her which is wonderful after a seemingly endless winter.

As you know, we are having a very wet summer, but I am too busy to worry about it. My favorite season is around the corner and I look forward to every aspect of Autumn!!

OMG!
I'm so behind in reading all my fav blogs. It is hot and humid here and the kennel is overflowing with boarders! Everyone must have picked the same time to go on vacation!
I'm enjoying your post and love that little T-shirt.
Those shoes are cool, (I did something like that for my nieces birthday! I used gel medium to transfer an image on the shoes and then filled it in with sharpie markers).
So I am reading along and suddenly I see my NAME! OMG! I'm so clueless!!! I didn't realize that I had won! Duh!
THANK YOU so much.
I'm so excited.
xoxo - Cindi

You have turned a $3 pair of shoes into a work of art! They're really lovely. The new baby, too, will have a layette like no other! I'm itching to have a go with some dyestuffs and this year am growing some plants for dyeing but haven't yet got around to the actual fabric in dyebath stage.

Hi Jan,

Love all your creations. The shoes are so fun and now unique, The baby clothes are adorable! We have had the most perfect weather for the whole month of July here in Victoria 36 days of beautiful sunshine!!!

Looking at your other posts I see you got a Gelli plate too. Aren't they fun? I will have to look up the tape transfers. I love the bowling balls that you did up for your garden, brilliant! And all your quilts are just to die for!
