Sadie news-It's good!

Remember about a year and a half ago I posted how I took in this old Golden Retriever that seemed lost?  I put up ads and contacted various animal shelters to report her but I never did find her owner and never had a clue about where she came from.  My cat Charlie had trouble adjusting to her even though the new dog was very quiet and gentle.

As you can see from the photo, Charlie adjusted to Sadie and we all settled in happily.

On Saturday, a stranger came to the house looking for chainsaw man, he needed work done on his saw and heard that Steve is the man to see.  He came in the yard and all the dogs were clustered around to greet him and he said, "That dog looks just like a dog I lost awhile back!"  How long ago? I asked and he said about a year and a half ago.  Well Sadie is his dog.  He just lives a mile down the road but he and his wife keep very much to themselves and I've never met them.  He said they had put up posters and put an ad at the animal shelter.   We discussed the merits of his telling his wife as Sadie was really her dog.  I said please don't take her back, I love her, she fits in so well here.  But I also said I hope he does tell his wife so she can ease her mind about what happened to Sadie. He took a photo of Sadie with his camera.  I said they could have her back if they wanted, but I hoped I could keep her.

Kobos

I lost a dog once, she just disappeared and I never knew what happened to her.  I never really got over the loss so I can relate to what they went through losing Sadie/Gypsy.  I'd have loved to have found out that my lost dog was taken in by some other loving family.  Instead I've imagined many other scenarios, none of them good.  Above is a painting of her that a friend did for me.

On Sunday the man, his wife and their 8 year old daughter came here.  I was nervous, wondering what would happen.  The woman came in and tearfully greeted her long lost dog and Sadie seemed to remember her.  The woman, her name is Jenn, right away told me that they decided I should keep Sadie, that set my mind at ease.  Jenn said that she was so happy to find out that Sadie is still alive and found such a good home.  She said Sadie looks so good, her allergy problems have cleared up and she obviously is happy here, so she should stay.  They still have two other dogs to love.

Above is a small piece I made of me and my lost dog, Kobos.

So now the mystery of Sadie is solved.  I'm sorry those people had to go through the pain of losing Sadie but at least now they know she has a happy ending.  The other good thing is that we all hit it off so well with these people, I believe they will become good friends.  The little daughter was such a sweetheart, she brought us a card she made and a little bag of goodies that she selected to give.  There were some chocolates, two books from her collection, a small tin of mints that when I later opened it I found it contained pretty rocks, and a cloth book cover. They all stayed for a couple of hours and we talked and I showed them around the studio and the garden and we ate some snacks.  It was quite wonderful.  I'm so happy Sadie is still here.  Oh, and it turns out that Sadie isn't a Golden Retriever at all but instead is part Chow and part Irish Setter!  That explains the spots on her tongue and her red coat!

Be well.

Superb! Not only the fact that you get to keep Sadie but that new friendships were formed, the loving kid, and the beautiful artwork generated from connections to your animal companions. Perhaps this story gives soothes your soul that Kobos may also have found a loving family. Beautiful story telling.

What a story. The Universe has strange ways. I believe that the woman was sending a message that she was wondering about Gypsy and the Universe showed the answer. It really would have been traumatic for Sadie to have to leave yet another home she loved.

Funny how things happen, huh.
Glad Sadie is with you and that cat!

Whew! I am so glad Sadie gets to stay with you. And they aren't far away at all, so if they miss her, they know where to look. :) The little girl sounds so sweet. My kids used to do things like that - take gifts to friend's houses. I loved seeing what they wanted to give. A tin of rocks sounds perfect. :) xox

Jan, I'm so happy that you get to keep Sadie. I know you love her and she has become an important part of your family. These sound like good people so now we know Sadie has been blessed with two families who love her. Thanks for sharing this. Enjoy your week.

What a wonderful story. I'm so glad Sadie can stay. I'd have thought Golden Retriever, too. We had both a cat and a dog who disappeared for a time... the cat just wandered back one day, well-fed and looking good. The dog was brought back by a farmer who lived several miles away and heard we'd lost our dog... but it was several months till he came home. He was dirty (a barn dog) but well-fed and cared for. Happy endings on animal stories are so good to hear!

What a post!!!! I certainly can see where you would be torn both ways in keeping or losing "Sadie" but I'm glad it worked out for everyone in the end. I still love the pic of her with the cat!!

Sadie/Gypsy is twice blessed. And I am so glad that her first family decided that she should stay put with you. Things have a way of sorting themselves out. Best we aren't always in control of the outcomes. But blessed are we, like this time.

I've never lost an animal that I haven't gotten them back but not to know would be a very hard pill to swallow. Your art of your lost fur baby is beautiful. Oma Linda

Oh what a good ending Jan. Our beagle Rusty was found at the end of our road and no one claimed him even though he was advertised by animal control. About a year and a half later a man came over looking for a lost beagle and my heart sank. It wasn't his little girl dog, and we did get to keep Rusty who know is 10. It would have broken my heart to let him go. Yeah Sadie and yeah to new friends. xox

What an amazing story! I am so happy for you and them. And so happy you got to keep your sweet girl. I would have thought she was a golden retriever too.

What a great story, thank you for sharing it!

So glad that Sadie is staying with you, and even nicer that the previous owners were good about seeing how happy she is.
And maybe best of all, you've met some new, nice friends...all through a little heartbreak on their end and the possibility of it on your end.
Life is good Jan.
And you are so good with pets~~any that arrive at your home know they have won the "Pet Lottery"!!! ♥

XXOO~~

what a great, sad, bittersweet, and happy all-rolled-into-one story. it's so nice of them to not make you give up sadie. i'm surprised, though, that since they have a child who probably loved her pieces they didn't take her back. but then at the same time they realize she's in a very happy home and being well taken care of. i don't know what i would do in that situation. i don't know if i could be as strong and unselfish as that. they must be good people.

I'm sure glad that Sadie (her new name fits her so well) got to stay at your house. She seems perfectly happy to be there and no one could give her a better home than you...the original dog whisperer.
